Another 7 Pretty Odd But Surprisingly Daily Effective Habits I use
Am I really THAT weird though?
Like a month or 4 ago or so I dropped one of my best performing newsletters to date with the title: “7 Weird yet highly useful habits I use on a daily basis”
After doing this for some time now (like 1 year so not so long actually) I found out that you guys really seem to enjoy tips and posts about habits. I’m not simply making this to get some extra internet points, but this really seems to help you improve your daily routine.
And I’m happy to oblige!
I do have a lot of weird habits like sleeping with my socks on (yes I do, fight me), but is this really going to change your life? No, of course not. That’s why I’m only sharing my odd habits that have improved my life a ton; and will hopefully help you too!
So, here are another 7 Pretty Odd But Suprisingly Daily Effective Habits I use on a daily basis:
1. Asking myself: ‘What would my future me think of this?’
Whenever I’m tempted to indulge in degeneracy. Like eating a cake I really shouldn’t, or when I’m tempted to go out when I still have a ton of work to do.
I then ask myself the all-important question:
‘Will this make my future self happy?’
It’s simple, when the answer is no. I don’t do it. This helps me make better decisions that will serve me in the long run!
2. Feeling anxious, take up more space.
I don’t mean that when you’re on a train that you take up both seats and lay out your bags along the aisle.
But having an open posture and taking some extra space will make you feel more comfortable and confident.
When you’re sitting slouched over, looking like a crushed can. You’ll feel like one.
3. Writing it all down.
You might be very familiar with this feeling when you get a banger of an idea, something that’s life-changing. An idea so good that it would make you so rich that you can put your kids’ family in school.
‘Okay, after I’m done with task A,B or C, I’m going to work on this further.’
But then you forget it 5 minutes later.
This is probably a worse feeling than forgetting your wallet, stepping in shit or falling into a ditch when you were 11 years old—in front of everyone of your class. (Definitely didn’t happen to me)
So from now on as soon as you get an idea write it down.
Even if it’s not really a great one at all, this will build the habit of you doing that whenever you DO get an amazing idea.
4. Scheduling in ‘bored time’
When was the last time that you were bored?
Like, genuinely ‘I don’t know what to do with my life’ bored?
Probably a long time ago. Simply because we always have something to do, a task to attend to, a show to watch, a conversation to have.
But I personally found that being constantly ‘on’, I didn’t think as clear as I used to.
Every week I have an hour when I do ‘nothing’, I only have a pen and paper near me. When I’m bored the best ideas come to me, and I really get my head set straight again.
I had some ‘bored time’ before writing this, and I have to tell you that my creative juices are really flowing. Try it yourself once, you’ll thank me later.
5. Daily Walks
Hear me out okay, going on daily walks is NOT an odd or weird habit. I know that.
It gets weird when you see somebody casually strolling along when it’s -10 degrees, or it’s pouring down. And, that peculiar chap seems to be enjoying it.
Especially when I’m feeling anxious about something, then a walk really has a soothing and calming effect on me no matter the circumstances outside.
6. NO caffeine in the afternoon/evening
I absolutely love a cup of coffee in the morning, and in the afternoon, and in the evening.
But, my body doesn’t really appreciate it that much.
Unless I want to be staring at the ceiling all night long. I’ve now stopped drinking coffee after 12, and my sleep improved a ton!
Also, you shouldn’t drink coffee in your first hour after awaking, because this disrupts your sleep rhythm.
7. If I can’t buy it 10 times, I don’t buy it
This one is pretty simple to keep my finances in check. If I have 5K in the bank, pretty decent, and I want to splurge a bit—really treat myself.
While I’m in the store I see the brand-spanking new AirPods Pro Max sitting there in a beautiful display in front of me. The headphone of my dreams. But I get rudely awoken when I see the price tag of ‘$600’, so I can’t make that purchase using my mantra.
Of course when I break my leg or something like that and I can only pay for it twice. I do have to pay for it, what else am I going to do? Not walk.
This is pure a rule of thumb I use for my ‘wants’, not my ‘needs.’
Thanks again for reading through all of this, really hope you enjoyed it!
